Water Meters
By now we have all heard about the problems with the water meters.
My meter was frozen and I was there when Shawn thawed and repaired it.
I thought others might like to see what is involved, so I took some pictures of the process.
Since my meter is partially buried in the ground he had to dig out around it. The ground was partially frozen making the digging even more difficult.
The couplings on either end of the meter are loosened so that the meter can be rotated to get access to the bottom of the meter.
With the bottom up, the torch is now used to thaw it out enough to get the water flowing. Too much heat applied can damage the plaster and rubber parts inside the meter, so the torch is used just enough to get the water flowing. Once the water starts flowing in, it will melt the rest of the internal ice.
After allowing the water to flow for a bit to continue melting the ice and the flush out any contaminants, the new plug is installed and the meter is put upright again and tightened in place.
This meter was a harder than some to repair, and took about 1 hour.
